Spadger recently posted about the question of who should be the next leader of the Labour party, and therefore the next PM, at least for a while anyway. At the moment, Gordon Brown is the favourite to succeed Blair, but is he necessarily the best man for the job? Is he your choice, or would you prefer someone else? Maybe, you would like to see a younger candidate, or do you think a more mature politician would serve us best?
If you have an opinion about the subject why not vote in our latest poll, you will find it in the sidebar on the right. If your choice isn't mentioned, pop back to this post and leave a comment.
Update: the poll is displaying a little oddly, but it seems to work ok.

I suppose I ascribe to the anyone but Brown view. He has been briefing against Blair (ie his paid lapdogs), he supports Iraq but whenever a crisis appears he is curious by his absence.
Whatever you think of Blair he has been true to his principles.
Me ? I'd skip a generation Benn, Milliband, Johnson none of them are tarred with the Blair/Brown axis.
I picked the skip a generation option too, I think a younger person could bring fresh ideas and a more modern perspective - or at least one would hope so.
I'm not keen on Brown either, Blair may be smarmy, but Brown seems sneaky. As you say, he has his lackies out working against Blair, but he doesn't have the courage to fight his corner himself. I suppose some would say he is being diplomatic for the sake of unity within the party, but it doesn't really work that way, the dis-unity is still there.
Yes, Blair has stuck to his guns, even though it has made him unpopular, which must take some courage. It's just a shame those principles weren't more in line with the wishes of the people who elected him.
